RICHARD GRAYSON

Alpha/bet - 1989 (with Michele Luke) 35 mins duration..

A series of tableau vivants that took place in conjunction with images of the alphabet drawn from a 1950's illustrated dictionary for children.

The image or text on the left hand side generated the positions taken by the performers on the right hand side of the frame which inturn informed the meaning of the handwritten text, often in the form of puns or a rebus.

In turn the twenty four bits of text when read out at the end of the work constituted a coherent text addressing power-relationships within a male/female exchange and relationship.
